14 Fashion trends to try in 2014

14 fashion 2014 1.  Icy metallics – This year, icy metallics are a huge hit on the runways.  From light pink to baby blue as well as silver and lavender hues are sure to stand out from the crowd. 2.  Mixed media clothes – This year mixed media is a big trend.  The leather trim trend from last year is well into this year.  But also combining knits with leather, fabrics with lace, any combinations of media are making a huge impact 3.  Folk references and boho prints – Tribal patterns, folk outfit patterns and boho prints in neutral colors were seen on most runways. 4.  Recycle – Yes, while it was always cool to recycle, this year recycling your mom’s or grandmothers wedding gown is a big trend.  Taking sleeves of vintage wedding gowns, shortening hems or even converting trains to veils not only has major sentimental value, it is uber cool. 5.  Color block for men – who said color blocking was only for ladies? While women’s wear uses color blocking more for shaping and slimming, men’s wear is using it to add more of an edge to sweaters and shirts. 6.  Big bold accessories – While statement necklaces paved the way for this trend, this year the focus is on big bold pieces with a large single pendant as a focal point.  The bigger the better 7.  Flats – Women everywhere can thank the fashion gods for this trend.  Flats are the in thing this year.  Anything from blinged out shiny sneakers to loafers and pumps, flats are the way to go. 8. Hair – from Ann Hathaway to Jennifer Lawrence and even Jennifer Hudson, everyone wants to take a shot at a short pixie cut.  Other than being the ‘In’ thing, it is easy to manage. 9.  Pointed nails – lovingly referred to as ‘talons’.  Gone are the days of short boxy nails.  The new thing is longer pointy nails.  Stars from Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have been sporting this new look. 10.  Animal motifs – Large animal motifs were everywhere this year in New York Fashion week runways.  In fact, the unicorn sweater worn by Malia Obama at a basketball game sold out in less than 2 hours! 11. Longer lengths – Longer hem lines are totally in this year.  All skirts and dresses have hem lines that are mid-calf. 12.  Fringes – Fringes are everywhere this season.  On jackets, hats, scarves and even dresses. Not only do they give the apparel the western cowboy edgy look, they add dimension and drama. 13.   Quilted designs – This fall, leather will take a new personality with quilted patterns.  Outerwear, skirts etc. will be popular in a quilted design giving the boring leather skirt some character. 14. Black White Prints – Black and white still remains the go to color combination for designers all over.  This includes summer and fall of this year.
