The Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival is an annual festival held for two weekends in the Inlands Empire Coachella Valley, in the Colorado desert. The event features many genres of music including Indie, Hip hop and Rock to name a few.
It is one of the most profitable music festivals in the US and draws crowds upwards to 225,000 people each weekend. Over the years, it has gained a reputation of being a very coveted event and the who’s who of the celebrity world attend this event. In doing so, it has also become a runway for models and celebrities alike. The fashion at Coachella is unsurpassed to many a fashion events and major designers for the top prize – a celebrity wearing their piece to Coachella.
Here are my top 5 fashion trends from Coachella 2014.
1. Crop Tops
It was hard to find a covered mid-drift at Coachella, which wasn’t hard to believe considering the warm temperatures over the weekend. What is interesting about this trend is how fast it is catching on all around the country. Walk into your local mall and I would put money on the fact that you will see at least one person showing a little skin in a crop top. What’s great about this trend is how truly versatile it is; crop tops come in so many shapes and designs that almost anyone can find a style they can pull off. Compare Vanessa Hudgen’s minimal outfit to this original Zankhna design- same concept, but totally different look- which one would you rock?
2. Coordinating Prints
The Coachella crowd is always cutting edge when it comes to the latest fashions. Mixing prints is old news for this fashion forward group, so the truly daring wore fully matching garments (check out Katy Perry’s fiesta inspired outfit!). With a strong presence of florals and ikat prints, coordinating tops and bottoms really took away the show. I see a future for these matching outfits through spring and summer 2014.
3. Hats
Whether it was to block out the sun, or purely fashion, hats seemed to be on everyone’s mind (get it?) at Coachella this year. For many, their hats were just about the largest piece of clothing they wore during the hot days of
the three day music festival held in the California’s Colorado Desert. Celebrities like Alessandra Ambrosio and Miranda Kerr were seen sporting wide rimmed hats in multiple colors. Of course, none could compare to the monster of
a hat that Pharrell pulled off in his evening performance during the festival.
4. Maxi Dresses
The printed maxi dress has been a staple for music festivals for years. The breezy material mixed with a fun print makes the perfect outfit for a day on your feet. Celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens wore their maxi’s flawlessly with simple accessories and light make up.
5. Flower Power
Coachella has been called a modern-day Woodstock. Concert-goers channel their inner hippie to mix with current trends which creates a one of a kind look year after year. So, last but certainly not least, the flower child was brought to life with the abundance of floral prints this year. Floral detail was seen in lace, crochet, and in large bright prints all throughout the garments at the festival.
