The Good, the Bad, and the Boring of the Emmy Awards

September 20, 2016 by Zankhna Parekh - No Comments

The Emmy Awards last weekend featured some of the best stars in the Hollywood industry. Some celebrities showed off their passion for fashion, others tried a look they might have done better without, and some styles were just plain-out boring. Read on to see if your favorite made the list!

The Best:

1. Priyanka Chopra

Dressed in Jason Wu, the Quantio star looked like a real-life royalty. The bright red color matched her cherry lipstick, and she finished her award-winning look off with a princess twirl of her own.

2. Natasha Lyonne

This dramatic white and black confection was just the perfect amount for the Emmy’s red carpet. Paired with Lyonne’s soft waves, this look was one was the of the best of the night.

3. Sarah Paulson

Sarah Paulson made every best dressed list last night in this plunging green number from Prada. The angular structure of her body and face when perfectly with the curves of the dress, while the green made for a striking contrast against her skin.

The Boring:

1. Julianne Hough

Something about the plain drape of this Giorgio Armani gown seems a little “meh” to be worn to an awards show. The lack of jewelry is a bold move, but one that does not work in Hough’s favor. Without anything to spice the look up, the dress looks like little more than a well-draped bedsheet.

2. Shiri Appleby

Unfortunately for Shiri Appleby, the straight cut of the skirt and the all-over sequins are a little too predictable for the red carpet. Even a different print or an on-trend diamond choker would have made this look a bit more interesting to be knocked off the “boring” list.

3. Emily Ratajkowski

The excessive detailing and sharp angles on this Zac Posen dress seems to overwhelm the skinny model rather than enhance her features. The addition of Ratajkowski’s intense makeup makes this look a little bit too much too handle all at once.

The Worst:

1. Amy Poehler

While we hate to put the hilarious comedian at the top of our list, the beaded shawl wasn’t doing her any favors at the awards show. The matching jewelry and accessories read as matronly instead of stylish, making her outfit one of the biggest fashion faux pas of the night.

2. Allison Janney

Why is that the best comedians never seem to have the best fashion taste? The excessive beading, the bow, and the strange overlay of thin mesh over nude fabric seems a little “2000s prom dress” for our liking. However, Janney does get points for the matching earrings, which elongate her body and draw attention to her impeccable hair and makeup.

3. Heidi Klum

Although Heidi Klum’s body is killing it, this dress is not. The strange asymmetrical arm and cutout combo reads more like a figure skater outfit than it does for the red carpet. Sorry Heidi, better luck next time!
