86th Academy Awards Red Carpet Roundup – Oscars 2014
In my opinion the Oscar’s are only partly about the awards – the rest is all about the fashion! This year’s show was spectacular as the stars rocked the red carpet, and Ellen Degeneres kept everyone laughing while taking selfies and ordering pizza with the A-listers. It was definitely an evening to remember, and being a designer, I will of course remember all the fabulous styles the celebrities sported. These are my picks of the ladies who made me want to pursue acting just so I could look like them for one night of the year!My top 8 BEST DRESSED LIST Camilla Elves –Camilla looked simply ravishing sitting next to her nominated husband this year in a pale pink gown by Gabriela Cadena. A mom of three kids and her outfit and makeup was sheer perfection – how in the world does she do it?!Cate Blanchet –Cate Blanchet had it all- gorgeous makeup, perfect hair and killer dress. She was glowing in her beaded nude Armani gown while she accepted the award for best actress for her role in Blue Jasmin.Sandra bullock – Ms. Bullock definitely isn’t an amateur when it comes to the red carpet, but she pulled out the big guns this year with a gorgons navy gown by Alexander McQueen. She looked elegant, formal, and overjoyed as her film Gravity took away the night.Charlize Theron – The LBD never fails to impress-especially when worn to perfection. Charlize owned the red carpet this year in this sexy number by Dior. Jennifer Garner – It is fitting that one of Hollywood’s sweethearts would pull off this delicate fringe gown by Oscar de la Renta. The gown suited her style perfectly and she strolled through the paparazzi looking as elegant as ever.Kate Hudson – One word – Goddess. Kate Hudson stole the show in her to die for Versace cream gown. Amy Adams – As one of the most talked about actresses of 2014, with two films nominated at this year’s Oscars – Amy Adams definitely dressed to impress. She looked formal and elegant in her stunning gown by Gucci.Jessica Beil – Jessica Biel could look gorgeous in sweatpants, so it is no surprise that her shimmering Chanel gown lit up the red carpet. My only question, “why was her best accessory – the fabulous Mr. Timberlake not on her arm?6 NOT so ‘best dressed’ listWhile every single woman who walked the red carpet was beautiful, these are a few I believe didn’t dress to their full potential. No worries, there’s always next year!Lupita Nyong’o – Lupita Nyong’o has been my absolute favorite fashion icon this whole season, but she just failed to deliver at the Oscars. Her pale blue gown by Prada was absolutely stunning and fit to the tee but her Mohawk-esque hairstyle just did not fit the bill! Maybe my expectations were too high, and she has set the fashion bar too high but I look forward to seeing her style at future events.Angelina Jolie – As the Humanitarian of the Year winner, Angelina graced the stage in a beautiful, shear Elie Saab gown. But with her recent breast implants, the fit just seemed a little off, and definitely did not do the designer justice. She has always been so classy, so this look just did not suit her.Penelope Cruz – Something about Cruz’s whole look just didn’t seem to work. She was draped in a baby pink Giambattista Valli gown that showed off her gorgeous arms, but her make-up and hair just didn’t seem to be as executed as well as it could have been. She may have been going for a more casual look, but it came off as a little rushed!Jennifer Lawrence – Jennifer Lawrence decided to go with a more fitted dress this year- possibly to avoid another (adorable!) trip – and the Dior Couture red gown was perfect. Her make up and styling was much different than what I am used to seeing her in, and really didn’t work to her playful, humorous and bubbly personality! And was it just me or was the under eye highlighter too much?Kerry Washington – Pregnant women are always glowing and I usually love Kerry Washington’s style, but this gown by Jason Wu just did not do her justice. Anne Hathaway – While her Gucci gown was stunning, Anne Hathaway seems to be stuck in the same style and cut of dresses. I think if she had changed it up and worn a bolder cut, and a different pattern she would have gotten a lot more attention. I think her cute pixie hair-cut could have been styled a little better as well!
