(1) Tell us about your current profession and what your work involves
I am the current Chief of Police for the Morrisville Police Department. Currently, I lead an accredited police department with 42 full time personnel that work in different divisions of Administration, Patrol Operations, and Support Services. My staff and I work collaboratively with staff to assess organization and departmental growth, evaluating and assessing internal and external short-term needs while establishing a long-term vision through strategic planning, managing community issues such as meeting the cultural needs of a diverse population and the logistical factors of serving a community impacted by ongoing development and related traffic congestion. This is only a small part of the wonderful things that we do each day.
(2) Share about how you contribute to the community or about any volunteer service or interests that you have
I am passionate about being a part of my community by volunteering at cultural activities, speaking at events, and simply by being present, approachable, and available. Without hesitation, I lend my support at most fundraising events. In 2017 and 2018, I began a school supply drive to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Wake County. While working in partnership with Target and the Western Wake Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, I was able to facilitate an in store and virtual shopping experience for nearly 3 dozen elementary and middle school aged children.
(3) Your passion – What is your “Why?” Why do you get out of bed each morning?
I believe that if God gives you breath each day then it is your responsibility to create meaning and influence others in a positive way. My passion is and has always been to inspire, be inspired by others, and live a life of authenticity. As a mother and a Police Chief, I find that inspiration can come in many forms. The life I see in the eyes of my children renew my spirit and give me hope. In turn, I believe that being genuine in how you treat others often is the hope that they need as well. “The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The work of life is to develop it. The meaning of life is to give your gift away” -David Viscott
