I normally stick to darker colors and subtle prints when dressing myself, so I wanted to spice things up a little bit for spring (while sticking to my signature style of course!). So I made this season all about classic spring, you know- how spring felt when you were six years old and could finally wear your pink tulip dress without tights to school. Everyone wants to feel light and free during this time of year so I went crazy with the pastels and threw in some fun prints. Of course my signature black items are always in there and who can say Spring/Summer without saying “maxi dress”?
I don’t know about you but I am beyond ready for spring this year. After we experienced the coldest winter this country has seen in a century, and North Carolinians deemed our most recent storm “Snowmageddon” (Snowpocalypse a close second), I cannot wait to pull out my spring closet. Luckily, the weather gods were in our favor this weekend with temperatures in the high sixties and sunny skies, and we decided to take advantage and shoot our Spring ’14 line.
People always ask me how I find/pick my models….Kaylie is a girl I used to work out with in the gym! She has the most beautiful dirty blonde hair, blue eyes and of course a killer body. I had asked her over 8 months ago if she would model for my spring line! Yasmine was my cashier at Harris Teeter (a grocery store)! She looked beautiful and I mustered up the courage to ask her if she would model for me! And Guili was a girl who simply liked my FB page and I thought she was just gorgeous so I reached out to her as well and viola! All three beautiful models yet real life people! You just never know who crosses your path every day! Every Collection and photo shoot will have one picture of me and my daughter? Why? Well, that is why I started my line! To cater to moms! To help style busy mommies who don’t have time to research all the latest trends and what to wear! To dress on the go moms who want to be effortlessly stylish yet trendy! And to dress moms who have more choices than wearing the skimpy tight runway outfits or baggy oversized tent like clothes! That’s why!
We started out early as I personally styled all the models and picked their outfits and locations I wanted them to be photographed in! For their makeup, I chose a breezy, spring look and chose a colorful look for their makeup. We then continued to spend the better part of our day strolling around the city, enjoying the beautiful weather, and snapping pictures along the way. My three models (Guili, Kaylie and Yasmine) were a blast to work with, and were such troopers as we ventured high and low to find locations that captured the essence of my spring line. The wind just was not cooperating and by 6pm it was starting to get chilly but these girls just braved it all!
Our quest started at a local park with a gorgeous white gazebo. To me, the idea of a gazebo just screams spring, and I have had this particular one in my mind since I started designing the spring collection. We then ventured out to a nearby rustic wooden bench. The model wears a gorgeous white shift to bring some life to the old, shadowy, park. I wanted to finish the shoot at my community pool to really bring to life the colorful, fun feel of this line. The water looked a wonderful shade that captured the pale blue carried through many of the garments.
I cannot wait to show of the pictures from the rest of the day. The weather was wonderful, and the beautiful garments gave everyone spring fever. So, goodbye winter, and hello spring, we are so happy you have arrived!
